11 September, 2018

Leading independent infrastructure manager Whitehelm Capital, on behalf of Sustainable Energy Infrastructure, has today completed the acquisition of a portfolio of regional, small-scale generation and compressed natural gas refuelling assets from AGL Energy Limited (“AGL”). This transaction, originally announced by AGL on 23rd April 2018, has now closed.

The portfolio comprises eighteen contracted cogeneration, biomass and biogas generation, gas generation, landfill generation, landfill flare facilities, and compressed natural gas refuelling assets located across Australia. The portfolio will continue to be managed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team that have transferred from AGL to Sustainable Energy Infrastructure.

Sustainable Energy Infrastructure is managed by Whitehelm Capital on behalf of a consortium of like- minded Australian superannuation funds who recognise the value of developing and providing sustainable energy solutions to customers across the region. Sustainable Energy Infrastructure will be actively seeking to expand its existing national footprint of mid-market infrastructure assets that are underpinned by long term cashflows with high quality clients.

Saji Anantakrishnan, Whitehelm Capital’s Head of Australia and Asia, said “We look forward to working with the Sustainable Energy Infrastructure team to deliver intelligent energy solutions that have a strong focus on sustainability, consistent with Whitehelm Capital’s approach to responsible investment.”

“Our investment in Sustainable Energy Infrastructure is typical of our mid-market infrastructure strategy, which focuses on resilient businesses with strong value creation potential, an established team, strong commercial counterparties, and an identified pipeline of growth opportunities. Whitehelm Capital has generated attractive returns for its investors through multiple business cycles by consistently pursuing a differentiated investment origination strategy and value-focused assetmanagement.”
